Mobile Crane Operator Certification 

Mobile Crane Operator Certification Course Description: The course is designed to cover the general requirements for the safe use Mobile Crane Operator training, testing, and evaluation for operator qualification for crane operators in general industry and construction not requiring national certification. The course includes professional classroom instruction, a 200-page participant workbook, practice quizzes, final written exam, and hands-on evaluation. This is NOT a national certification program.

Curriculum covers pre-operation inspection, controls, functions, stability, set-up, outriggers, leveling, cribbing, hazards, wire rope, load hooks, load handling, traveling, rotating, elevating and lowering loads, load placement, load rating charts, load weight calculating, calculating lifting solutions and signaling/spotting. A practical mobile crane operating evaluation will be completed on the third day. 

Mobile Crane Operators Practical Evaluation: An operator practical evaluation is included and will be conducted after successful completion of written exam to ensure that the operator has the knowledge, skills, and competency needed to operate equipment safely. Operators must be evaluated on each make and model of Mobile Crane to be operated.

Who Should Attend: Required for all employees who operate mobile cranes on company owned or controlled property. This does not meet the requirements for cranes operations for hire.  Participants must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS

Prerequisite: Rigging and Signaling Qualification. All participants must be able to provide current proof of training completion.  

Crane Requirements: Operator practical evaluations will be conducted on the third day of training on the crane the operator regularly uses. Crane pre-use inspections will be conducted to ensure that a current annual inspection has been completed and the crane is in proper working order prior to conducting operator practical evaluation.

Safety Equipment Required: Attending participants are required to bring Hardhat, Safety Glasses, Work Gloves, Work Boots, Reflective Vest or Jacket and wear proper Work Clothing to participate in hands-on exercises and operator practical evaluation.  

Completion Requirements: Participants are required to be present and actively participate in all learning activities including hands-on exercises, written exam, and practical evaluation. Participants successfully completing the program will receive a mobile crane operator training photo ID card. Employer specific training and authorization is required. Retraining and certification every 5 years or earlier due to unsafe act observed, a near miss or accident, and equipment or workplace changes. 

Learning Aids: Participants should come prepared with a note pad and pen. Guides and handouts will be provided at the start of the course. The presentation and materials are in English (Spanish translated courses are available upon request).

Course Length: Approximately 3 days of classroom theory and activities followed by practical exercises and evaluations. We will be covering a great deal of information in a short period of time; your punctuality will be greatly appreciated.
